Biography

Tanja Collet-Najem is an Associate Professor and Department Head in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of Windsor, where she has been a faculty member since 2001. She holds a BA in Translation Studies from the University of Antwerp, an MA in Applied Linguistics, and a PhD in Linguistics from Université de Montréal, complemented by a postdoctoral fellowship in French Applied Linguistics from the University of Ottawa. Collet-Najem's teaching encompasses theoretical linguistics, applied linguistics, and translation studies. She has received several accolades, including the 2023 Outstanding Professor Award from the Student Society of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and a nomination for the Teacher of the Year Award in 2003. Her research interests focus on discourse analysis, text linguistics, specialized discourse, and lexicon, engaging in projects examining the semantic and terminological dimensions of citation use in academic discourse, as well as language attitudes within private and public writings of Flemish Dutch-speaking immigrant communities in southwestern Ontario. Her work has been published in prestigious journals including Discourse & Society, Discourse and Interaction, and Meta. Collet-Najem also serves as the editor-in-chief for the Canadian Journal of Netherlandic Studies and contributes to editorial boards, receiving research funding from noted organizations like the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). She was awarded the Vinay & Darbelnet Prize from the Canadian Association for Translation Studies (CATS) for her contributions to the field of text linguistics.
