Biography

Tanja Itgenshorst is an ancient historian with expertise in the Roman Republic and Early Empire, as well as Archaic Classical Greece. She obtained her PhD from the University of Cologne and has served as a lecturer at the University of Bielefeld, where she also completed her habilitation and attained Venia Legendi. Her academic career includes positions in Belgium at KU Leuven and in France at Université Paris 1 and Paris 7, where she has been an invited lecturer. She was a visiting professor at Humboldt University in Berlin during the 2011-2012 academic year. In 2012, she was appointed full professor of Roman history at the University of Reims, and in 2018, she became a full professor at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. Tanja is also a member of the scientific board for 'Studien zur Alten Geschichte' (V&R/Brill) and serves on the scientific committee for 'Ktèma' and 'Historische Zeitschrift,' as well as being the secretary for 'Museum Helveticum,' where she is responsible for Ancient History.
