Dr. Tanja Müller

Biography

Tanja Müller is a Professor of Political Sociology at the University of Manchester, where she has been a faculty member since January 2006. She was a founding member and director of the Humanitarian Conflict Response Institute from 2010 to 2014 and the convenor of the Manchester Migration Lab in 2017. Her research focuses primarily on transnational lived citizenship, political belonging, and the integration of refugees within the humanitarian response framework. Tanja's academic journey began with an MA in Linguistics Philosophy from the Free University Berlin and continued to an MSc in Development Studies at University College Dublin and a Ph.D. in Development Studies from the University of East Anglia. She has held various academic roles, including at Wageningen University, and has a competitive research record with extensive grants supporting her work in areas such as refugee integration and global solidarity. Her publications include significant works like 'Making Elite Women: Revolution and Nation Building in Eritrea' and 'Legacies of Socialist Solidarity.' Tanja's innovative research explores the intersections of revolution, global rights, and solidarity, using qualitative methods such as interviews and ethnographies.
