Dr. Tanmay Lele

Biography

Tanmay Lele is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University and a CPRIT Scholar in Cancer Research. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University, obtained in 2002. He conducted postdoctoral research in Vascular Biology at Harvard Medical School and Children’s Hospital. His educational background also includes a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree from UDCT in Bombay. Dr. Lele's research focuses on mechanobiology, specifically the mechanobiology of cancer. His lab investigates the molecular mechanisms of cell-generated mechanical forces and the signaling pathways that regulate cell and tissue functions, particularly how these relationships are altered in cancer. Current research projects in his laboratory include quantitative measurements of nuclear forces, the effects of mechanical stresses on nuclear function and gene expression, and cellular adaptation to the mechanical properties of the extracellular matrix, as well as the mechanics of cancer tissue development.
