Biography

Dr. Tanveer E. Towheed graduated from Queen's University in 1989. He completed a year of research fellowship in epidemiology focused on rheumatic diseases at the University of Maryland, supervised by the internationally renowned rheumatologist Dr. Marc Hochberg. Currently, Dr. Towheed is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at Queen's University, specializing in Rheumatology and Public Health Sciences. His expertise lies in systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and Cochrane reviews. Dr. Towheed's main research interests include medical management of osteoarthritis and clinical osteoporosis. He is particularly interested in the role of glucosamine in the treatment of osteoarthritis, particularly in hand osteoarthritis. Dr. Towheed is also a member of the Core Expert Panel that developed the 2012 American College of Rheumatology Treatment Recommendations for osteoarthritis of the hand, hip, and knee.
