Biography

Tanya Dahms is a Professor and Associate Dean of Science (Research) at the University of Regina. Her research focuses on Physical Biochemistry, with particular interest in Microscopy and Microbiology. The Dahms group has pioneered techniques to study live fungal cells using atomic force microscopy (AFM) and has applied this knowledge to analyze both pathogenic and mutualistic bacteria as well as opportunistic fungal pathogens. Her recent research examines the cellular responses of cancer cells to antifungals and the unintended effects of herbicides. Dahms utilizes a variety of microscopy techniques including fluorescence, scanning electron microscopy, and novel correlative microscopy assays to assess dynamic processes in living cells. She is supported by several funding agencies including the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI). Dahms' academic qualifications include a BSc from the University of Waterloo and a PhD from the University of Ottawa, complemented by postdoctoral studies at Purdue University and the National Research Council.
