Professor Dr. Tanya Karwaki

Biography

Tanya E. Karwaki, JD, LLM, PhD, is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Health Systems and Population Health at the University of Washington School of Public Health. Her scholarship centers on the intersection of health law, bioethics, and health policy, examining the impact of law and regulation on health care access and delivery. Her research also delves into emerging trends in health care delivery, professionalism within the sector, and the dynamics of provider-patient relationships. Tanya has significant professional experience, having served as a law clerk for the Kitsap Superior Court and the Washington State Court of Appeals, as well as the Counsel for the Washington State Senate Health and Long-Term Care Committee. Additionally, she worked as a clinical risk manager at Harborview Medical Center. She has a rich and interdisciplinary teaching background and has directed the Barer Institute for Law and Human Global Services at the UW School of Law.
