Dr. Tanya Murtha

Biography

Tanya D. Murtha is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Brown University, specializing as a Clinician Educator. She graduated magna cum laude from Boston University with a bachelor's degree in English and Biology in 2008. Following her undergraduate education, she obtained her MD from the Boston University Schools of Medicine and Public Health in 2013 and completed her residency in Pediatrics at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital. Dr. Murtha further enhanced her expertise through a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine, along with a Master’s in Health Science with a focus on the Medical Education Pathway in 2020. Before joining Brown University, she held a joint position at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital and Harlem Hospital, where she also served as an assistant fellowship program director in pediatric critical care. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, she became the inaugural Liaison for Learning Environment in the Department of Pediatrics in 2023 and will assume the role of Assistant Dean for Student Affairs in 2025. Her research interests encompass medical education, particularly enhancing the learning environment and improving communication in serious news through interdisciplinary training methods. Dr. Murtha is recognized for her exceptional bedside teaching and has been awarded the Dean’s Excellence in Teaching award in 2024 for her innovative curriculum development and implementation. Outside of medicine, she enjoys being a hockey mom, reading, knitting, running, and spending time at the beach.
