Biography

Tao Jin is an Associate Professor and Deputy Head of the Department of Rheumatology and Inflammation Research at the University of Gothenburg. He completed his MD at Suzhou Medical College, China, in 1995, and earned his PhD from the Department of Rheumatology and Inflammation Research at Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, in 2005. His research focuses on understanding the interactions between Staphylococcus aureus and the host, particularly in the context of septic arthritis. He has identified key bacterial factors that contribute to joint damage and is investigating therapeutic strategies that combine antibiotics with immunomodulating biologics to improve patient outcomes. His work aims to uncover mechanisms of disease, including how bacterial components affect immune responses and lead to joint dysfunction. Jin has published extensively on the virulence factors of S. aureus and the immune mechanisms involved in infectious arthritis, with a keen interest in developing preventative modalities against biofilm infections. He seeks to understand and mitigate the post-infectious complications related to S. aureus septic arthritis through innovative research approaches.
