Biography

Tapomayukh 'Tapo' Bhattacharjee is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Cornell University, where he directs the EmPRISE Lab. He completed his Ph.D. in Robotics at the Georgia Institute of Technology and was an NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA postdoctoral research associate in Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Washington. His research aims to enable robots to assist people with mobility limitations in performing activities of daily living. He focuses on human-robot interaction, haptic perception, and robot manipulation and addresses fundamental research questions involving leveraging physical interactions in unstructured human environments to perform relevant activities. Bhattacharjee has received numerous awards including the TRI Young Faculty Researcher Award in 2024 and the NSF CAREER Award in 2023. His work has been recognized at several prestigious conferences with multiple paper awards and nominations, and featured in major media outlets such as BBC and Reuters for his work on robot-assisted feeding.
