Biography

Tara Collington has been a faculty member at the University of Waterloo since 2001, where she currently serves as a Professor and Chair of the French Studies Department. She earned her Ph.D. in French from the University of Toronto in 2000 and has an M.A. in French Literature (1992) and an Honours B.A. in English and French (1991) from McMaster University. Her research primarily focuses on 20th-21st century French literature and she has published numerous articles exploring authors such as André Gide, Alain Robbe-Grillet, and Colette Fellous, employing a theoretical framework rooted in Bakhtin studies with a specific interest in the concept of the chronotope. Collington's work often examines the intersection of literature and photography, particularly how the textual description interacts with visual representations in French literary texts from these centuries. She also maintains an interest in English literature and has co-authored works on Shakespeare adaptations. In addition to her published articles, she has edited several volumes and continues to engage in foundational research on literary representations of historical events and Bakhtin's theoretical frameworks.
