Biography

Tara McGee is a Professor and Associate Dean at the College of Natural and Applied Sciences at the University of Alberta, specializing in wildfire social sciences. Her research program investigates individual, community, and organizational responses to wildfires, engaging with areas such as wildfire prevention, mitigation, and experiences, particularly among Indigenous communities. McGee has completed numerous studies focused on the human dimensions of wildfire, including risk perceptions, preparedness, and evacuation strategies. She co-leads the Nations Wildfire Evacuation Partnership, focusing on community preparedness and public support for prescribed burning. In addition to her wildfire research, McGee has supervised projects related to other natural hazards. She teaches courses on the human dimensions of environmental hazards, fostering understanding of vulnerability, environmental justice, and risk communication in students. McGee holds a PhD from the Australian National University and a Bachelor of Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo.
