Biography

Dr. Taralyn McCarrel grew up in Brampton, Ontario and spent her formative years riding horses while working at a nearby hunter-jumper barn. She dedicated her riding years to academic pursuits, graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College’s Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program in 2006. She subsequently completed an internship in large animal medicine and surgery before moving to Ithaca, New York to pursue research in comparative orthopedics and regenerative medicine at Cornell University. After completing her equine surgery residency at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, she attained board certification in large animal surgery from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2014. In 2015, McCarrel joined the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, where she supported the Large Animal Surgery Service and Equine Lameness Imaging Services. A passionate educator, she developed an Equine Lameness Imaging course and coordinated an Equine Surgery Laboratory course. Her research interests center on orthobiologics, lameness diagnosis, and upper airway surgery.
