Biography

Taras Koznarsky is an Associate Professor in the Department of Slavic & East European Languages & Cultures at the University of Toronto. His research focuses on Ukrainian and Russian literatures of the late nineteenth century, exploring themes of national cultural identity as well as modernism and avant-garde movements. One of his current research projects examines the literary and cultural imaginations surrounding the city of Kyiv from 1800 to the 1930s, considering the contributions of Ukrainian, Russian, Jewish, and Polish perspectives. He teaches various courses related to Ukrainian language and literature, with a special emphasis on cultural exchanges and historical literary movements in the region. His academic journey includes a PhD from Harvard University, which he completed in 2001, as well as a Master's degree from the University of Alberta and a Bachelor's degree from Lviv University. His contributions to the field are recognized through both teaching and research, contributing to a deeper understanding of Eastern European literatures.
