Professor Dr. Tarek El Bialy

Biography

Tarek El-Bialy is a Professor at the University of Alberta's Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, specializing in Orthodontics and Bioengineering. He began his career in orthodontics at Tanta University in Egypt and later served as the Director of the Orthodontic Clinic at King Abdul-Aziz University in Saudi Arabia. His educational background includes a BDS and MSc in Orthodontics from Tanta University, a PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Illinois, and a Certificate of Specialty in Orthodontics. Tarek's research interests are diverse, encompassing bioengineering, biomechanics, bioacoustics, cell and tissue engineering, clinical orthodontics, and craniofacial anomalies. His main focus is on the treatment of dental issues such as root resorption and dentofacial regeneration through innovative therapeutic approaches, including ultrasound. Tarek is an active educator, teaching both undergraduate and graduate students in orthodontic clinics while dedicating significant time to research. He has contributed to numerous publications exploring different facets of orthodontics, including the effects of clear aligners and low-intensity pulsed ultrasound on bone growth and dental alignment.
