Biography

Tarek Zohdi is the C. Hall Endowed Chair in the Computational & Data Science & Engineering Program at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He received his Ph.D. in Computational Applied Mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin in 1997. He furthered his research as a post-doctoral fellow at the Technical University of Darmstadt in Germany from 1997 to 1998 and then served as a lecturer at Gottfried Leibniz University of Hannover from 1998 to 2001, where he earned his Habilitation in General Mechanics. Zohdi joined UC Berkeley as an Assistant Professor in July 2001, became an Associate Professor in July 2004, and achieved the rank of Full Professor in July 2009. His research interests encompass advanced manufacturing simulations, modeling multiphase material behavior, fire propagation control, UAV swarming, biological system simulations, and ballistic fabric shielding. He employs various methods including Discrete Element Methods, Finite Element Methods, and Machine-Learning Algorithms in his work.
