Tari Ajadi is a PhD candidate at Dalhousie University, having completed a Predoctoral Fellowship in Black Studies at Queen’s University. His research focuses on how Black activists in mid-sized municipalities strategize to prompt change in policing and health policy. He specifically examines the ways activists reject coalition-building, leveraging differences to exploit political discursive opportunities arising within municipal and provincial governing institutions. As a British-Nigerian immigrant to Canada, Professor Ajadi aims to produce research that supports and engages Black communities throughout the country while standing in solidarity with Indigenous peoples' calls in Canada. He has published articles in notable outlets including the Globe and Mail, Chronicle-Herald, University Affairs, Canadian Government Executive, Canadian Diversity, and Tyee. Professor Ajadi is a co-author of the report "Defunding Police: Defining Way Forward HRM," released in January 2022. He is a co-founder of the Nova Scotia Policing Policy Working Group and serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Health Association of African Canadians and the East Coast Prison Justice Society.
