Biography

Taryn Bauerle is a Professor and the Director of Graduate Studies in the School of Integrative Plant Science at Cornell University. Her research primarily focuses on whole plant morphological and physiological responses to both abiotic and biotic stressors. She investigates how growth and physiological responses of woody plants are affected by water deficits, emphasizing the communication of water stress through long-distance signaling cascades. Her laboratory also explores belowground root niche partitioning and impacts of both intra- and interspecific belowground competition, as well as the characterization of root exudation profiles and microbial community composition. Dr. Bauerle’s lab studies the allocation of carbon in belowground root systems in response to environmental changes, utilizing advanced techniques such as X-ray computed tomography and multi-omics analyses. Through her work on both agricultural species and perennial woody systems, she aims to connect belowground physiology with whole-plant performance.
