Biography

Tatiana Bilbao began her eponymous studio in 2004, integrating social values and collaborative design approaches into her architectural work. The work of her office intersects research with design, allowing her to tackle diverse circumstances in reconstruction and crisis scenarios. Before founding her firm, Bilbao served as an advisor in the Ministry of Development and Housing for the Federal District in Mexico City, where she was part of the General Development Directorate Advisory Council on Urban Development. She holds a recurring teaching position at Yale University's School of Architecture and has previously taught at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design, Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, Rice University, Andrés Bello in Chile, and the Peter Behrens School of Arts at Hochschule Düsseldorf in Germany. Her architectural work has been published in several notable outlets including New York + U, Domus, Arquitectura Viva, El Croquis, and El País. Bilbao has received numerous accolades, such as the Kunstpreis Berlin in 2012, Emerging Voice from the Architecture League of New York in 2010, the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture from the LOCUS Foundation in 2014, the Impact Award from the Architizer A+ Awards in 2017, and the Marcus Prize Award in 2019. She was honored with the Tau Sigma Delta Gold Medal in 2020, became an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) in 2021, received the Richard Neutra Award, and the Miller Prize in 2023.
