Tatiana Soboleva received her undergraduate training in Biochemistry at Moscow State University. In 1998, she was awarded an International Postgraduate Research Scholarship by the Australian Government and undertook PhD studies at the John Curtin School of Medical Research (JCSMR) at ANU, where she investigated nucleocytoplasmic transport and the de-ubiquitinating enzyme, Usp4. After completing her PhD in Molecular Medicine, she undertook post-doctoral studies with Professor Ian Young at JCSMR, wherein she investigated cytokines that activate receptor systems. In 2006, she joined Professor David Tremethick’s laboratory at JCSMR and co-discovered a novel histone variant involved in gene activation during specific stages of spermatogenesis. In 2012, she established a subgroup within Professor Tremethick's laboratory and later developed an independent research group focusing on the roles of epigenetic factors that become upregulated in cancers. Her research interests connect epigenetics, cell differentiation, and cancer, concentrating on mechanisms that control the genome and ensure that specific cell types maintain functionality and adaptability during development.
