Biography

Tayfun Babadagli is a Professor at the University of Alberta with nearly 20 years of experience in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He began his journey at the University in 2002 after earning his BS and MS degrees from Istanbul Technical University and his MS and PhD degrees in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Southern California. His research focuses on reservoir characterization and dynamics, specifically in the area of unconventional oil recovery. Throughout his career, he has been awarded multiple recognitions, including the McCalla Professorship and the Killam Annual Professorship. Babadagli has significantly contributed to the field of petroleum engineering, most notably through the Society of Petroleum Engineers, receiving their highest honor, the AIME honorary membership, in 2020. He was also elected to the Canadian Academy of Engineering in 2024. His research interests include optimization of enhanced oil recovery processes and modeling fluid flow in porous media.
