Biography

Ted Melnick is a national leader in emergency medicine clinical informatics research, with expertise in designing, implementing, and evaluating digital tools to improve care delivery. His work focuses on leveraging electronic health records (EHRs) and clinical decision support systems to enhance clinical workflows and patient outcomes. He is the Principal Investigator of the ADAPT project, which is a five-year R33 award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, aimed at evaluating a multicomponent clinical decision support intervention to improve treatment for opioid use disorder in emergency settings. Dr. Melnick leads a multi-year collaboration with the American Medical Association to develop and implement national EHR use measures that capture clinical experiences and support system-level transformation. Currently, he serves as the Research Section Chief in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Yale School of Medicine and is the Program Director for the Yale/VA Clinical Informatics Fellowship. Dr. Melnick is deeply engaged in mentoring faculty, fellows, residents, and students in high-impact health services informatics research. He is board-certified in both Emergency Medicine and Clinical Informatics and practices clinically at Yale New Haven Hospital’s York Street and Shoreline campuses.
