Biography

Ted Poor is a New York-born, Seattle-based drummer, composer, and producer. His adventurous and soulful performances have earned him the reputation of being a vital artist in today’s music scene. Poor graduated from the Eastman School of Music and has toured and recorded with renowned artists such as Paul Simon, John Scofield, and Bill Frisell. In 2020, he released his debut album 'Know' under Verve Records, which received critical acclaim for its intimate and moving compositions. Poor has been a long-standing member of Andrew Bird’s band and has performed on numerous records and worldwide tours. He is an Associate Professor and Associate Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Washington, where he participates in the Provost’s Academy, a leadership development program supporting campus-wide arts initiatives. His teaching includes courses such as Jazz Workshop and Jazz Laboratory, reflecting his extensive experience and passion for jazz and improvised music.
