Dr. Putman’s academic interests began in the areas of Kinesiology and Biology at the University of Windsor, where he developed a keen interest in skeletal muscle biochemistry. After a short period working in the health fitness industry, he resumed his academic training in the Medical Sciences Graduate Program at McMaster University. His PhD research focused on the metabolic regulation of human skeletal muscle. Following a 3-year Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Konstanz in Germany, he joined the University of Regina as an Assistant Professor in Exercise Biochemistry, subsequently being recruited by the University of Alberta. His multidisciplinary research integrates cellular and molecular aspects of skeletal muscle adaptation in both healthy and diseased states. He holds a cross appointment with the Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
