Dr. Tejal Patel

Biography

Tejal Patel is a Clinical Associate Professor in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Waterloo, where she specializes in pharmacotherapeutic management of neurological conditions, with a particular focus on dementia, epilepsy, and Parkinson's disease. Her current research interests include the assessment and classification of drug-related problems, particularly in the context of cognitive impairment among frail elderly individuals in primary care settings. She emphasizes the importance of medication management and adherence in this population. Dr. Patel has a strong educational background, having completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Neurology/Pharmacokinetics at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and earning both her PharmD and BScPharm from the University of Kentucky. She has received several awards for her work, including the Canadian Association of University Continuing Education Program Award in 2017 and the Canadian Pharmacists Association Patient Care Achievement Award in 2016. In her teaching roles, she delivers courses such as Introductory Clinical Pharmacology and Integrated Patient Focused Care. Dr. Patel is actively involved with the Memory Clinic Centre and participates in training pharmacists through the MINT Memory Clinic Training Program. Her research is published in various journals, with ongoing contributions to the field of pharmacy.
