Biography

Teklab Gebregiworgis is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at Western University. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and completed his postdoctoral training at the University Health Network Research in Toronto. His research focuses on understanding the mechanistic details of deregulated cell signaling and metabolism. The Gebregiworgis lab is dedicated to exploring the molecular mechanisms of small GTPase protein functions, which play critical roles in various cancers and developmental diseases. The lab is particularly interested in how GTPase signaling is altered in disease states and aims to employ structural, biochemical, and molecular tools to investigate these processes. One key area of research is the development and application of NMR metabolomics-based methods to investigate disease-associated metabolic alterations. Through comprehensive analysis of metabolites in biological specimens, the lab seeks to provide insights into the phenotypic data resulting from genetic, transcriptomic, and proteomic changes. Additionally, the lab explores the impact of metabolic crosstalk within and between compartments to promote precision medicine in cancer treatment.
