Biography

Tengyao Wang is a Professor in Statistics at the London School of Economics. He holds a masters degree in Financial Statistics and is the Programme Director for the MSc Statistics program. His research primarily focuses on high-dimensional statistics, specifically developing computationally efficient procedures for addressing high-dimensional problems. His current research interests include sparse signal detection in high-dimensional data, change-point detection and estimation problems, dimension reduction techniques, and robust statistical procedures in the presence of missing data and heavy-tailed noise. Additionally, his work explores nonparametric statistical inference and its applications in medical statistics, financial data analysis, and statistical learning-assisted material discovery. Before joining LSE, he served as an Associate Professor at University College London and was a research fellow at the Cantab Capital Institute for Mathematics and Information at the University of Cambridge. Tengyao Wang has received the Royal Statistical Society Research Prize in 2019 and the Guy Medal in Bronze in 2023.
