Teodor Gabriel Crainic obtained his Ph.D. in Operations Research from the University of Montreal in 1982. He is a full professor of Operations Research and Logistics and holds the Industrial Research Chair in Logistics Management at the School of Management of the University of Quebec in Montreal. He is an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science and Operations Research at the University of Montreal, as well as in the Department of Economics and Management at Molde University College, Norway. He is a member of CIRRELT and served as the director of the Transport Research Centre from 1991 to 1999, and he directs the Laboratory on Intelligent Transport Systems. His research interests focus on optimization of networks and combinatorial problems, meta-heuristics, and parallel computing. Key application areas include planning, management, and operation of transport, logistics, and telecommunications systems, intelligent transport systems, and electronic business. He has authored or co-authored 130 scientific articles and co-developed STAN, a software for strategic planning of multi-modal, multi-product transport systems used in 16 countries. He is a co-founder of the international conference series TRISTAN and Odysseus. In recognition of his contributions, he received awards including the Excellence Award in Research from the University of Quebec in 1993 and the Merit Award from the Canadian Operations Research Society in 2006. He has been a member of the Royal Society of Canada since 2006.
