Biography

Teodoro Jerves Serrano, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Genetics at Yale School of Medicine and a clinical biochemical geneticist. He cares for patients ranging from neonatal to adulthood and specializes in inherited metabolic diseases and genetic conditions. His expertise includes the diagnosis and management of metabolic disorders such as maple syrup urine disease, galactosemia, tyrosinemia, and X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy, which are part of the newborn screening program. Dr. Jerves Serrano is involved in the Pediatric Cardiogenetics Program, investigating the genetic factors contributing to heart diseases in children and adults. In addition to his clinical work, he is dedicated to medical education, preparing future generations of medical students, residents, and fellows. His research focuses on understanding the genetic variations that impact the development and management of inherited metabolic and cardiovascular conditions, with the aim of providing personalized treatment plans that consider an individual's unique genetic makeup, ultimately improving patient outcomes. He is also a consultant for the Undiagnosed Disease Network, helping individuals find answers to their diagnosis.
