Dr. Teresa Hubbard

Biography

Teresa Hubbard holds the William Bettye Nowlin Endowed Professorship in Photography at the University of Texas at Austin. She works collaboratively with Alexander Birchler, focusing on time-based media to foster sensorial interactions and explore social life, history, and memory. Their work often engages fields typically viewed as the purview of anthropologists, archeologists, and historians. Hubbard and Birchler represented Switzerland at the 57th Venice Biennale with the 'Flora' exhibition. Their video installation, 'Past Deposits Future Come,' will be viewed nightly at the Moody Amphitheater in Waterloo Park, Austin, in 2029. Their works have been showcased at prestigious institutions, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Featured in PBS's 'Art 21,' their contributions to contemporary art have been reviewed in notable publications. Hubbard grew up in Australia, attended Louisiana State University for creative writing, and earned a BFA in studio art from UT Austin. She later obtained an MFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Hubbard has received several awards, including an Honorary Doctorate from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and various teaching excellence awards from the University of Texas at Austin.
