Biography

Teresa Niccoli is an Associate Professor in the Department of Genetics, Evolution and Environment at University College London, where she leads a research group focused on Drosophila models of dementia. After obtaining her PhD in 2002 under Professor Paul Nurse at Cancer Research UK, she took a position at the Gurdon Institute in Cambridge as a Beit Memorial Fellow, researching cell polarity in Drosophila oogenesis. Following a career break, Niccoli completed a Master’s in Medical Ethics and Law at King’s College London in 2009. She returned to the Institute of Healthy Ageing at UCL in 2010 to continue her work on Drosophila models of neurodegenerative diseases and later transitioned to the Dementia Research Centre at UCL. In January 2019, she returned to the Institute of Healthy Ageing to establish her own group, focusing on dementia. Niccoli holds recognition as a HEA Associate Fellow and has been actively involved in advancing understanding within her field for over two decades.
