Dr. Terri Helge

Biography

Terri Lynn Helge is a Professor of Law and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Texas A&M University School of Law. She holds a J.D. from South Texas College of Law, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and was the Note & Comment Editor for the South Texas Law Review. Additionally, she earned a B.S. in Accountancy with Highest Honors from the University of Illinois. Helge's academic career includes notable roles at Texas Wesleyan University School of Law, where she served as a Professor and Associate Professor. She has extensive practical experience as a tax lawyer, having practiced at Thompson & Knight LLP in Dallas. Her focus includes estate planning, nonprofit organizations, and taxation. Helge has a background as a CPA in international accounting, working with individual taxpayers and family-owned businesses. She is well-versed in the intricacies of tax law and has helped organizations navigate tax exemption standards. Her research interests prominently feature nonprofit organizations and their operation, tax standards, and exemption criteria. Helge enjoys interacting with students and is committed to fostering their critical thinking skills, helping them to apply legal doctrine effectively to real-world scenarios. Outside of academia, she values family time and enjoys traveling and reading.
