Dr. Terry Martin

Biography

Terry Martin is the George F. Baker III Professor of Russian Studies in the Department of History at Harvard University and serves as the Interim Director of the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute. His research focuses on the dynamics of Soviet history, ethnicity, identity, surveillance, and political violence, providing insights into the complexities of these interrelated topics. Through a rigorous examination of historical events and their implications, Martin contributes to a deeper understanding of how these forces shaped the Soviet Union and continue to influence present-day discussions on identity and governance. His position at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs supports his research and fosters interdisciplinary collaboration. As a Faculty Associate, he engages with diverse scholarly communities, enhancing the academic rigor of his research projects and facilitating dialogues on significant international themes.
