Biography

Professor Winograd's focus is on human-computer interaction, design, design technologies, and development. He directs the teaching programs and research at the Stanford Human-Computer Interaction Group, which celebrated its 20th anniversary. As a founding faculty member at the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford, known as the 'd.school', he has played a significant role in the field. Winograd was also a faculty member of the Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law (CDDRL). He is recognized as a founding member and past president of Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility, and he has served on the editorial boards of several journals, including Human-Computer Interaction and ACM Transactions on Computer-Human Interaction. Winograd has advised numerous companies and has had a significant impact on the careers of students, many of whom have started companies including Google. In 2011, he received the ACM SIGCHI Lifetime Research Award.
