Dr. Themis Kyriakides

Biography

Themis R. Kyriakides is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Yale University. He has a Ph.D. from Washington State University. His research focuses on the cellular and molecular events that occur at the interface of implanted biomaterials and tissues. Specifically, he investigates biomaterial-induced inflammation, wound healing, and tissue regeneration with an emphasis on angiogenesis and extracellular matrix remodeling. He conducts in vivo work using genetically-modified mice and explores gene delivery mechanisms involving biomaterials. His innovative contributions include the development of biodegradable polymers, modifications of glucose sensors, and the creation of artificial skin. He has published extensively on these topics, contributing to significant advancements in biomaterials and tissue engineering.
