Biography

Themis Dimitra Xanthopoulou is a Postdoctoral researcher in the Responsible AI group, currently focused on AI transparency and participatory approaches using modeling as a main tool. Her expertise lies in knowledge integration across disciplines, particularly in research policy. With a background that combines Environmental Engineering (postgraduate diploma) and Information Communication Technology (PhD), she has developed a diverse educational foundation to tackle complex scientific and societal challenges. Her research centers around the intricacies of AI and the processes surrounding abstraction, while actively engaging affected individuals to understand their needs. Themis has delved into various interesting domains, including soil remediation through nature-based solutions, paleoclimatic data analysis, and ancient water systems, gaining insights into how these elements shape societies. During her doctoral studies, she explored the complex concept of bullying, creating an innovative tool called ODD2ABM, which assists individuals in building simulation models without advanced coding skills. Her primary expertise in modeling—both conceptual and computational—reflects her versatility as a researcher. With experience in teaching, she has honed her skills as a communicator and mentor, aiming to create research outputs that are inclusive and relevant to a wide array of stakeholders.
