Professor Dr. Theo Arentze

Biography

Theo Arentze is a Full Professor emeritus in Real Estate Urban Systems at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), specializing in Real Estate Management Development. His research primarily focuses on the analysis and modeling of spatial choice behavior within the built environment, employing large-scale simulation models for decision support. The general aim of his work is to enhance the realism of spatial choice models by incorporating bounded rationality. He has made significant contributions to decision support systems, activity-based modeling, discrete choice modeling, agent-based modeling, human cognition/learning, and social network modeling. Currently, his research centers on the behavior of actors within real estate management and development, aiming to analyze and predict behaviors to develop effective decision support systems. His work emphasizes the impact of the built environment on well-being and the necessity for high-quality built environments that positively influence human interaction. Theo holds an MSc in psychology from Groningen University with a specialization in cognitive psychology and artificial intelligence, and a PhD in Urban Planning from TU/e. He has published over 220 articles in international peer-reviewed journals across various fields, including transportation, urban planning, geography, marketing, and consumer research. He is also a member of editorial boards and active as an ad-hoc reviewer for numerous journals and conferences, contributing to interdisciplinary research in management, psychology, sociology, geography, and economics.
