Biography

Theo Salet is the Dean of the Department of the Built Environment and a Full Professor of Structural Design with a focus on Concrete Structures. He began his international engineering career concentrating on numerical simulations and hardening concrete. Salet has worked on a variety of significant projects including bridges, tunnels, and buildings. At Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), he focuses his research on the integration of design and construction with concrete, particularly in the early design phases where structural models are developed and validated. He has pioneered the 'Parametric Design Tools' for design phases in product development and is actively involved in developing advanced non-linear elastic finite element models related to concrete, known as 'Numerical Concrete'. His research interests notably include the 3D-printed (fiber) reinforced concrete, where his research group continues to develop proprietary 3D concrete printing technology. He explores the robustness of the printing processes and the potential to embed reinforcements to enable various structural applications, aiming to support the digital transition within the architecture, engineering, and construction industries, aligned with the vision of Industry 4.0.
