Biography

Professor Tsotsis received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1978. He joined the University of Southern California (USC) and currently holds the title of Robert E. Vivian Professor in Energy Resources at the Mork Family Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science. He served as the Department's inaugural Chair in 2005. Professor Tsotsis’ research interests cover areas such as transport, adsorption, reaction in complex porous media, reaction engineering, reactor design, and membrane separations. He has authored 280 technical papers and book chapters and has been involved in the editing of Technical Meeting Proceedings volumes. His research also extends into both theoretical and practical applications, focusing on problems in petroleum upgrading and bioreactors, among other fields. He is a co-founder and member of the executive board of USC’s NSF/IGERT Center for Environmental Engineering and is a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).
