Dr. Theodore Glasser

Biography

Theodore L. Glasser is a professor emeritus at Stanford University, where he has been affiliated since 1990 in the Department of Communication. He served as the director of Stanford’s Graduate Program in Journalism for 14 years. Glasser's extensive research and commentary have been published across various esteemed journals, including Journalism Studies, Journal of Communication, and Journalism: Theory, Practice and Criticism, among others. He has also been involved in editorial boards for seven academic journals, demonstrating his commitment to advancing the field. Active in community service, he has been a member of the board of directors for the Stanford Daily Publishing Corporation and the Cable Co-op, a cooperative cable system serving Palo Alto and Stanford. Before his tenure at Stanford, Glasser was faculty at the University of Minnesota and the University of Hartford, where he contributed significantly to the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and was the founding associate director of the Silha Center for the Study of Media Ethics and Law. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa and was inducted into the School of Journalism and Mass Communication’s Hall of Fame in 2011, an honor shared with notable figures like George Gallup and Wilbur Schramm, who served as mentors to him.
