Dr. Theodore Leng

Biography

Theodore Leng, MD, MS, FACS is a Professor in Ophthalmology at Stanford University, where he serves as the Director of Clinical and Translational Research and the Director of Ophthalmic Diagnostics. He has been a full-time faculty member since 2010. Dr. Leng is known internationally for his innovations in the medical and surgical retina fields, focusing on patient-centered care and cutting-edge technologies. He received his AB in Philosophy and BS in Biological Sciences from Stanford University, attaining Departmental Honors, and later completed his MS in Biological Sciences at the same institution. He obtained his medical degree from the Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Leng has published over 200 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts, book chapters, and abstracts, and is actively involved in various clinical trials aimed at improving treatments for retinal diseases such as macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons, among other professional organizations. His commitment extends beyond clinical practice as he contributes to a vibrant clinical and basic science research program and is frequently invited to speak at national and international conferences. He also plays a vital role in mentoring the next generation of ophthalmologists and was the President of the Stanford Medicine Alumni Association, engaging with over 26,000 alumni to support their mission.
