Dr. Theodore Stathopoulos

Biography

Theodore (Ted) Stathopoulos is a Professor in the Department of Building, Civil and Environmental Engineering at Concordia University. He obtained his Civil Engineering Diploma from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, and his M.E.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of Western Ontario in 1979. Dr. Stathopoulos has received numerous honorary doctorates and accolades for his contributions to wind engineering, establishing a prominent research legacy with over 600 publications in refereed journals and conference proceedings. His work is instrumental in the development of the National Building Code of Canada and American National Wind Standards, shaping the safety and performance of buildings in windy environments. He has served in various administrative roles including Associate Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science and Director of the Centre for Building Studies. Dr. Stathopoulos's dedication to teaching was recognized with multiple teaching excellence awards at Concordia. His research interests encompass Wind Engineering, building aerodynamics, and the interaction of wind with buildings, with ongoing projects focusing on rooftop solar panels and wind loads on irregular building shapes. He is also involved in various professional societies, and serves on several editorial boards, contributing to advancements in the field of wind engineering and architectural studies.
