Biography

Theoni Georgiou obtained her B.Sc. in Chemistry and Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry from the University of Cyprus in 2001 and 2006, respectively. During her Ph.D. studies, she joined Professor Antonios (Tony) Mikos’ group at Rice University in the USA. In October 2007, she moved to the UK, where she was awarded a five-year RCUK Fellowship in Colloidal Nanotechnology at the University of Hull, leading to a Lectureship in November 2012. In January 2014, she joined Imperial College London and has since been promoted to Professor of Polymer Chemistry in 2022. In 2017, she received the Macro Group UK Young Researchers Medal for her outstanding contributions to polymer science. Georgiou served as the chair of Macrogroup UK from 2019 to 2022 and is currently an Associate Editor of the European Polymer Journal. Her research interests focus on the synthesis and characterization of polymers and their evaluation in various applications, including drug delivery, gene delivery, and tissue engineering. She is particularly interested in self-assembling block copolymers, gels, and thermoresponsive polymers, especially thermogels.
