Biography

Theresa Meki is a Pacific Research Fellow at the Australian National University, specifically within the Department of Pacific Affairs, Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs. Her PhD thesis, titled ‘Givim lo Aza’ (Give mother): Oro Women and the 2017 Papua New Guinea National Elections, explores the political participation of women in Papua New Guinea. With over seven years of experience, Theresa has been involved in various DFAT-funded projects aimed at supporting women's leadership in the Pacific, including the Women Leadership Support Program and a political context analysis for the Papua New Guinea National Elections in 2017 and 2022, where she served as a team leader in Oro Province. Before joining the Department of Pacific Affairs in 2015, she worked as a field producer and research assistant for the documentary film series Pawa Meri. Theresa has also taken an interest in biography writing and is currently co-convening the Papua New Guinea Dictionary Biography Project.
