Therese Tardio aims to provide students with a challenging yet comfortable learning environment. Her primary commitment as a teacher is to challenge students to think critically and analytically about the subject matter and its relationships to the world around them. Tardio encourages students to question established narratives, pushing them to step outside of their comfort zones and reassess long-held beliefs. Her research spans geographic areas of the Spanish-speaking world, particularly Central America, with a focus on contemporary cultural production in El Salvador, Nicaragua, and the U.S.-Mexico Borderlands. Her interests also encompass feminist and gender studies, decolonial studies, and visual studies. As the Director of Undergraduate Strategic Initiatives, Tardio oversees study abroad programs and advises the Hispanic studies minor, while contributing to international community engagement projects with student groups. She is a co-author and lead content developer for the web-based course Elementary Spanish I & II Online, designed for hybrid and fully remote learning environments.
