Dr. Thiago Silva

Biography

Thiago Nascimento da Silva is a Lecturer in the School of Politics and International Relations at the Australian National University and the Deputy Director of the Australian Centre for Federalism. He received his Ph.D. in Political Science from Texas A&M University, USA, and holds a Master's degree in Political Science from the University of São Paulo, Brazil. Prior to his current position, Thiago was a Postdoctoral Researcher in Political Economy at the University of Mannheim, Germany. His research agenda concentrates on comparative politics with a focus on political institutions and political economy. His work investigates the institutional variations in democracies and their impacts on governance, and analyzes how governments formulate and enact policies. Recent projects examine power dynamics in executive-legislative relations within coalition governments, and the consequences of party competition, voter behavior, and opposition behavior. Thiago is also researching how voters form perceptions of political parties' policy positions based on different events and circumstances. He is co-authoring a book on this topic, to be published by Cambridge University Press. His research has appeared in prestigious journals such as the American Political Science Review, Journal of Politics, and the European Journal of Political Research.
