Biography

Thibaud Kössler is a senior consultant in medical oncology and head of the Gastrointestinal Oncology Unit at the Geneva University Hospital (HUG). He holds a medical degree (MD) from the University of Geneva (2005) and a Ph.D. in genetics epidemiology from the University of Cambridge (2009). He received specialist certification in oncology (FMH) in 2018 and became a consultant the following year. By 2019, he had also assumed leadership roles as head of the Gastrointestinal Tumor Board and co-chair of the colorectal cancer Task Force at the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC). His research interests focus on understanding the complexity of the colorectal cancer microenvironment, aiming to discover druggable targets to enhance treatment options. He established a laboratory in 2021 that employs innovative clinical trials and advanced techniques, such as single-cell RNA sequencing, to investigate colorectal cancer cells and their interactions with surrounding immune stromal populations. His work is instrumental in predicting treatment responses, discovering new therapeutic targets, and developing mouse models that accurately mimic human responses to test novel strategies. He has co-authored various publications focused on colorectal cancer and tumor immunology.
