Biography

Thobani completed his PhD in Hydrodynamics within Ocean Engineering at the University of Western Australia. He also earned a Master of Science in Mathematics from the University of the Western Cape, and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Chemistry from the University of Swaziland. During his PhD studies, Thobani intermittently worked as a secondary school teacher, specializing in Physical Sciences. His current research is focused on developing physics-based, phase-resolved models for predicting ocean surface waves on short time scales, with particular applications in ocean-related renewable energy generation. Moreover, he has begun investigating wave-structure interactions, focusing on the breaking wave loads on offshore platforms. His expertise aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in education and academic qualifications, emphasizing the importance of research that contributes to a sustainable future.
