Professor Dr. Thomas Biedermann

Biography

Thomas Biedermann is a Senior Lecturer at the Australian National University (ANU) in the School of Cybernetics. His background in systems engineering informs his research into organizational design, focusing on the creation of safe, sustainable, and responsible systems. He employs cybernetics, visual arts, and play-centric embodied methods to support diverse groups in envisioning and acting towards hopeful futures. His research encompasses various contexts and scales, including a Sino-French joint research laboratory on hematology in Shanghai and engagements with the French embassies in the USA and Australia. Previously, he served as the inaugural manager of the 3AI Innovation Institute at ANU and as the program manager for the ANU-wide decarbonization program, Zero. Thomas combines his analytical systems engineering training with creativity, employ visual arts, and gameful design to support significant societal transformations.
