Biography

Thomas K. H. Chang completed a Bachelor of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of British Columbia (UBC), where he currently serves as a Professor and Associate Dean of Graduate Postdoctoral Studies. He has a rich background in pharmacology and has pursued postdoctoral studies in Cancer Pharmacology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, as well as in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Chang’s research focuses on nuclear receptors, a superfamily of DNA-binding transcription factors that regulate gene expression across various biological processes. His laboratory investigates nuclear receptors' roles in drug metabolism, bioactivation, and detoxification mechanisms, specifically those associated with transporters and drug-metabolizing enzymes. Additionally, he is engaged in studies regarding the functional analysis of splice variants of nuclear receptors. Dr. Chang has received several awards recognizing his academic contributions, including the Senior Scholar Award from the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research and the Killam Faculty Research Fellowship from the Izaak Walton Killam Trust.
